India (2007)

The inaugural edition was played in South Africa which was a huge hit. Australia was the hot favorite, but it was India that knocked them out. The Indian team played great cricket throughout the tournament. The likes of Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir dominated the opposition. The nail-biting final was played by arch-rivals India and Pakistan with India winning the match by five runs. Team India was the world cup winner. Mathew Hayden was the highest run-getter, Shahid Afridi was named the man of the series and Umar Gul ended up with the highest number of wickets.

Pakistan (2009)

The second edition of the very popular T20 world cup was played in 2009 in England. The hosts were the hot favorites but they met an early upset when they lost to the Netherlands. The Sri Lankan cricket team was in great touch and they made it to the final where they faced Pakistan. But unlike last year, this time it was the Pakistan cricket team, the underdogs who lifted the cup. Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul annihilated the opposition. Pakistan won the final by eight wickets lifting an ICC trophy for the first time in twenty years. Tillakaratne Dilshan was the highest run-getter and was named the man of the series. Umar Gul bagged the highest number of wickets in this T20 world cup.

England (2010)

The third edition of the T20 world cup was played in the West Indies. The English cricket team seemed in fine touch as they had a near-unbeaten run throughout this tournament, on the other side the Australians were in great form and an England vs Australia final seemed inevitable. And after beating Pakistan by three wickets, Australia faced England in the world cup final. After a bad start Australia managed to set a defendable score, but this time it was England, everything they touched turned into gold, Hence England chased the target with ease and won by seven wickets. Kevin Pietersen was named the player of the series, Mahela Jayawardene scored the highest number of runs, and Dirk Nannes had the highest tally of wickets.

West Indies (2012)

The fourth edition of the T20 world cup was played in Sri Lanka, it was the first time that the world cup was hosted in Asia. This year the competition was neck to neck with high-quality teams competing against each other. But it turned out that the West Indians had something else planned. With the likes of Chris Gayle and Pollard, they were unstoppable. The final was played between Sri Lanka and West Indies with West Indies coming out victorious after they beat Sri Lanka by thirty-six runs. Shane Watson was the highest run-getter and the player of the series. Ajantha Mendis bagged the highest number of wickets.

Sri Lanka (2014)

The 2014 world cup was hosted by Bangladesh. India was the favorite this time. Virat Kohli was in the form of his life. In the hot and humid conditions of Bangladesh, only Asians were going to thrive, Sri Lanka cricket team seemed in a good form. Sangakkara and Jayawardene were leading from the front. The final was played between the two best teams; India and Sri Lanka. India did not perform well in the final and they were only able to get 131 runs on the board, Sri Lanka chased the target with ease. Virat Kohli was named the man of the series and the highest run-getter, whereas Imran Tahir and Ahsan Malik had the highest number of wickets.

West Indies (2016)

The sixth edition of the t20 world cup was played in India. This time again the hosts were favorites, they were getting ready to have their names written in the record books. They were in great form and hence they faced England one of the better teams in the World Cup in the final. It was a jaw-dropping final with a dramatic finish when Carlos Brathwaite hit four sixes off four balls to Ben Stokes. Hence the West Indians lifted the trophy for the second time.  Tamim Iqbal was the highest run-getter whereas Virat Kohli was named the man of the tournament.

Australia (2021)

The seventh edition of the t20 world cup was to be hosted by Australia, but unfortunately due to covid and lockdown, it was shifted to India, from where it was shifted to the UAE. The world cup was played after five years and Pakistan was the favorite this time. It was a great tournament with all sorts of emotions and upsets. This was the first time that the West Indies failed to qualify for the World Cup. The final was played between Australia and New Zealand. Australia was too good and they won the match by eight wickets and lifted the trophy for the very first time. David Warner was named the player of the tournament.
